dr. France Prešeren
the greatest Slovenian poet, was born in Vrba (3rd December, 1800); he worked in Kranj for his last 3 years; he died on 8th February, 1849 in Kranj.

(27th October, 1835 - 18th October, 1869), a Slovenian poet, was born in Mavčiče and lived in Kranj.

CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS OF KRANJ
Museum of Gorenjska is a provincial museum, established in 1963 with uniting of City museum (1953) and Museum of Revolution (1961). |

Central library of Kranj (Osrednja knjižnica) was formatted in the year 1960 with merging of Public library (1947) and Study library (1950). With establishment of Pionirska library (1960) it has became a modern organised library.
Historical archive of Gorenjska was established in 1973. |

Prešern's theatre Kranj - The foundations of theatre in Kranj go back to year 1963, when the city got his National reading society. From year 1907 there was theatre club.
Institution for the protection of natural and cultural heritage of Gorenjska was established in the year 1965, when institutions from Kranj, Domžale and Kamnik were united.
